Each week on the Tavour app, we highlight top-notch beers from independent craft breweries across the U.S. — and sometimes even from abroad! Here are just a few of the delightful IPAs we shared with beer lovers this week. Have you scheduled your beer delivery yet?
Anchorage Brewing Company - Better This Way - Imperial IPA
Did you know it’s against the law to give beer to a moose in some parts of Alaska?
Poor Alaskan moose. They live near one of Thrillist’s Best Breweries in the Country, and they can’t even experience it.
That’s probably for the best. If Bullwinkle and his buddies could waltz into a place like Anchorage Brewing and drink to their oversized-hearts’ content, it would spell trouble for the rest of us. These lanky behemoths can weigh well over 1,300 pounds — just imagine how many pitchers of today’s Better This Way it would take to get even ONE moose buzzed.
And this tropical hazebomb cranks the dial with a rockin’ 8.4% ABV, too! Guess we’re lucky the law is on our side — no moose is gonna get their humongous hooves on this citrus-blasted fruit punch before you do!
The brewers double dry-hopped Better This Way with some seriously fruity hops. Galaxy and Melba Hops make the velvety pour taste like fresh mango juice with a spritz of sweet passionfruit, while Strata and Motueka Hops bring balancing notes of lemon kush and pine through to the finish.
Unlike the Alaskan moose, we’re allowed to crack into as many cans of this nectarous Hazy as we want.
Illuminated Brew Works - Fruit Creep - Imperial IPA
It’s the local publications that really know a city’s beer scene. That’s why our taste buds perked straight up when the tourism website Choose Chicago announced: “If you’re looking for a unique brew, pay special heed to Illuminated Brew Works.”
That’s right on point! And, their flagship Fruit Creep IPA is a must-try. This hopbomb tastes as fruit-tastic as tropical berry Blow Pops, whipped into even more delicious, sippable beer form.
The real boldness is in the ingredients. Though Fruit Creep tastes like it must have some extra flavorful additions, the lush notes of candied fruit are all from hops! The brewers double dry-hopped this NEIPA beauty with an eyebrow-raising amount of Motueka, Citra, and Mandarina Bavaria Hops for mouthful after mouthful of sweet-coated tropical delights.
Candied orange washes into bright mixed berry and clementine, finishing with a gush of succulently juicy pineapple. Just a little honey-glazed breadiness wafts in on the finish to punctuate the fruit parade. Yum!
Just like that striped, colorful gum you chomped all day as a kid until your mom made you stop, Fruit Creep is sweet and tropically delicious, and it proudly contains no actual fruit. Only it’s 10X better than any gum candy because its fruity flavors linger in my mouth way longer. Plus, its juicy rapture comes with a 7.5% ABV!
True Respite Brewing Company - What Maryland Does - Imperial New England IPA
What Maryland Does is an impressive Hazy IPA by itself, boasting loads of dank fruit flavors from Centennial and Mosaic Hops in the whirlpool, plus juicy double dry-hopped helpings of Sabro, Citra, and Mosaic.
But, what really sets this juicy explosion apart is the fact that it’s a super collaboration between more than 25 different breweries!
You read that right. The Maryland Beer Cup gold medalists at True Respite brought together their favorite brewers from all around the state to celebrate their industry. And, as it turns out, they have a lot of favorites. A total of 28 breweries joined forces with True Respite to plan out and craft today’s Imperial hopbomb!
If there ever was a true taste of Maryland’s exploding craft beer scene, this is it.
Each sip of What Maryland Does brims with ruby red grapefruit and tangerine, deepened with notes of ripe mango and dank papaya. Wafts of pine resin and clove come in on the finish. Even with all the flavorful complexity and 8% ABV, the brew stays pillowy soft, and easy-to-drink throughout.
Mikerphone Brewing - 5 Finger Hop Punch Motueka - Imperial IPA
Beer geeks know that the top brewers ‘dry hop’ to extract the juiciest hop flavors possible. Sometimes, you’ll see a beer that’s double dry hopped, maybe even quadruple dry-hopped!
Which is why our minds basically exploded when we saw today’s 5 Finger Hop Punch — the brewers go a step further by dry hopping five times! The result is a tidal wave of juiciness that we didn’t know was possible.
Succulent notes of mango, pops of lemon zest, and a tang of lime spring forward with each sip. Paired with the bitter earthiness from the Motueka Hops, each sip tastes like an elevated juice box from your childhood!
All the juicy flavors expertly mask the 8% ABV, though you’ll feel the warmth if you’re lucky enough to get your own five fingers on a can.
Not only that, but to have this rarity come from Mikerphone Brewing — called “the hottest thing in Chicago,” by The Chicago Tribune and praised by the likes of Thrillist and Hop Culture — is almost too good to be true!
Fortunately for us, it is, indeed, real — and we’re stoked to spread the good news.
Drekker Brewing Company - Metaphase - Imperial IPA
Drekker is like that friend who speaks four languages, plays three instruments, and is also great at math — some people just bleed talent.
So, if anyone tries to pigeonhole these multi-talented brewers as only the ‘sovereigns of slushies,’ or the ‘deities of dessert beers’ — then we will eagerly hand them today’s Metaphase Juicy Imperial IPA.
It’s not just pillowy, it’s the shake-your-pillow-until-it’s-extra-fluffy kind of soft! The brewery crafts it with Citra and Nelson Sauvin Hops. This killer hop combo leads to luscious notes of orange, pineapple, papaya, and white grape with a beautifully dry finish.
It’s a shining example of Drekker’s outstanding hopjuice game. It offers a taste of why The Beer Travel Guide placed a Drekker IPA in their Best of 2019 and Best Beer in North Dakota lists.
With a little help from Drekker, even if you don’t speak more than one language, can’t carry a tune, and still count on your fingers, at least you can say you know a delicious IPA when you taste one!
