Each week on the Tavour app, we highlight top-notch beers from independent craft breweries across the U.S. — and sometimes even from abroad! Here are just a few of the sought-after IPAs we shared with beer lovers recently. Have you scheduled your beer delivery yet?
Anchorage Brewing Company - The Unthinkable - India Pale Ale
“Hot damn. This is the way.”
“Cashmere, Galaxy ... say no more!”
“Grapefruit zest, full hops, super drinkable!”
These fans agree: when you want to get away and relax, it’s safe to rely on Anchorage. Their inventive brews are revered by beer geeks the world over — Sip Magazine praises Anchorage for crafting “some of the most coveted pours on the global craft scene!”
That can easily be applied to their delightfully drinkable IPAs, like The Unthinkable.
On its face, this IPA might not seem cutting edge — Anchorage brewed it with a simple duo of Cashmere and Galaxy Hops. But take a sip, and you’ll find that Anchorage’s version of “simple” is more than 1+1=2.
- At first, the taste of grapefruit and unripe oranges takes the lead with refreshing drops of citrus on the palate.
- Soon after, a smooth burst of sweet honeydew shines through, like a ray of sun beaming through an open window.
- On the finish, notes of pine and green grass breeze over the palate as quietly as treetops swaying gently in the wind.
Adroit Theory Brewing Company - Regime (Ghost 916) - Imperial IPA
The craft masters at Virginia’s Adroit Theory have repeatedly stunned our palates this year with their G.I. Joe-themed series of IPAs.
With double-digit ABVs and massive amounts of hops, they’re boozy, brawny, and exactly the kind of beers we imagine ol’ Joe would swig after an action-packed day fighting the evil Cobra.
Based on the 4+ ratings you’ve thrown their way, our members like these hopbombs just as much as me. So, we should let you know — REGIME (Ghost 916) is the very last one!
This 7th and final installment is a Hazy Triple IPA, flexed to action hero strength with a massive hop bill of Mosaic, Moutere, Motueka, Simcoe, Citra, and El Dorado, along with a 10% ABV!
It’s probably just the way Adroit expertly wove all the hops’ tropical fruit flavors together (with a dose of silky lactose to boot), but each sip makes us feel as impervious as action heroes — the booze is shockingly crushable! Aromas of tropical citrus with summery florals give way to a pillowy body full of gushy pineapple and mango. Just a whisper of orange peel bitterness weighs in on the finish.
Bearded Iris Brewing - Very Varied - Imperial New England IPA
If variety is the spice of life, Very Varied DIPA will help spice up YOUR life!
Every sip of this brew bounces from flavors of fresh squeezed OJ, to ripe peach, to berry jam like a hungry monkey running rampant through the grocery store produce section.
To create it, the brewers at Bearded Iris use 4 of their favorite hops — Nelson, Cashmere, Citra, and Mosaic. Then, they shake things up by fermenting with a rarely-seen strain of yeast from the UK!
This unusual yeast makes for a super soft-body, while also creating multi-faceted fruit flavors that seem to shift around like a tasty tropical kaleidoscope. One second, the beer melts like a spoonful of mango sorbet. The next, it pops like pineapple fireworks!
It might seem strange for such a unique Imperial IPA to come out of Tennessee — the state isn’t exactly known as a mecca for hazeheads. But, as Paste Mag points out, the crew at Bearded Iris “is single-handedly changing that thought process.”
Lupulin Brewing - Sophistry 08
Lupulin just announced the latest addition to their Sophistry IPA Series! This lineup of 4+ UT-rated hopbombs focuses on new and rarely-seen hop combinations, and no two releases are ever the same.
Get your taste buds ready because Sophistry 08 contains one of the series’ biggest hop bills yet! They stuffed it with loads of Sultana, Sabro, Columbus, and Falconer’s Flight Hops in the whirlpool for tidal waves of coconutty, pineappley, and mangoey goodness!
And, its citrus-forward hop flavor swirls in a lusciously smooth body, thanks to heaps of wheat and oats in the base. It sips like a top-shelf mango-lime spritzer!
So, if you’re a devoted hophead looking to try a one-of-a-kind IPA, you may want to load up on extra cans for boundary-breaking enjoyment that lasts into 2021. Even though the next Sophistry release will probably be delicious, too, it definitely won’t taste the same!
Westbrook Brewing Company - Santa Claw - New England IPA
Happy Hops: Juiced up with heaps of Azacca, Centennial, and Citra. Taste the Holidaze: Cheery bursts of drippy mangoes and candied oranges, followed by a mistletoe-kiss of hop bitterness. Merry Mouthfeel: Super smooth and packed with fluffy juice.
Santa Claw is the jolly juicebomb that comes out of Westbrook Brewing only once a year. Every time it does, South Carolina craft fans flock to the taproom for a taste like elves to a toyshop!
Happy hopheads and haze fiends pile their tables high with pint after pint of Santa Claw. Every sip fills their heads with visions of juicy tangerines and pillowy-soft clouds, and the pleasing 7% ABV brings cheer to all who imbibe.
Because, when you hear that Santa’s hanging out at one of Paste Magazine’s Best American Breweries of the Decade, you get in on the good tidings.
